Map Printing
To print the maps on the SFWMM page, right click on the map and save to a directory of your choosing. (if you are in Netscape you will have to change the extension to .png instead of .jsp, if you are in Internet Explorer it will come up with the correct extension.) Then you will have to open the directory (that you saved the file in) in your Windows Explorer, then double click on the file you just saved and it will display in your default graphics software. Then you can print out the map.

Known Problems/Observations and Workarounds
Unable to print pdfs
You will need to use Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 to be able to print pdfs.
|
PDF files may not show up--the browser window is blank.
This is a known issue with Internet Explorer 4.x and greater and Netscape 4.x and greater. This is especially true when pdfs are being streamed from a server. Adobe Acrobat Reader is also aware of this and suggests the following as a workaround. The full instructions at the Adobe site are available for Navigator 4.x and Navigator 4.5 . The Adobe instructions for various Internet Explorer versions are also available. The idea for both browsers is to use Adobe Acrobat Reader as a 'Helper-Application' if using as a plug-in fails. As a helper application, Adobe will cause all pdfs to open in a separate Acrobat Reader window.
To configure an Acrobat 5.0 viewer as a helper application:
- Start the Acrobat 5.0 viewer.
- Choose Edit > Preferences > General.
- Select Options from the column on the left.
- Deselect the Display PDF in Browser option in Web Browser Options, and then click OK.
- Exit from the Acrobat 5.0 viewer.
To configure an Acrobat 4.x or 5.1 viewer as a helper application:
- Start your Acrobat 4.x or 5.1 viewer.
- Choose File > Preferences > General.
- Deselect the Web Browser Integration option in the Options section, and then click OK.
- Exit from the Acrobat 4.x or 5.1 viewer.
The next time you select a link to a PDF file in Navigator, a dialog box will ask what you would like to do with the file. If you select "Open it," Navigator opens the PDF file in your Acrobat viewer as a helper application; if you select "Save it to disk," Navigator saves the PDF file to your hard disk.
If you want to view pdfs within your browser window, you may need to do the following:
- If you use Navigator 4.x, which is included with Netscape Communicator, you may need to manually move the Acrobat Navigator plug-in into the Netscape\Communicator\Program\plugins folder.
- The Acrobat Navigator plug-in (Nppdf32.dll) installs with Acrobat to the following folder:
-- Acrobat [5.0 or 4.0]/[Acrobat or Reader]/Browser
- If you select a PDF file after installing the Navigator plug-in, the PDF file will download to the Netscape Temp folder, and Navigator will open the Acrobat viewer to display the file within the browser window. The Acrobat toolbar at the top of the browser window is an indicator that the Navigator plug-in installed correctly. (If the PDF file is not displayed within the Navigator 4.x browser window, see the above solution for Adobe as a helper application")
- If you install Navigator 4.x and keep a previous version of Navigator on your system, you may need to reinstall the Acrobat viewer to use theplug-in in both versions.
Otherwise, Navigator 4.x may use your Acrobat viewer as a helper application.

Problems downloading model files using UNIX
When downloading model files (input, output, and source code) uxing UNIX, the part of the filename to the right of the first dot is ignored (e.g., src_code.tar). UNIX does not embed the [1] within the suggested filename and the file fails to unzip as the type is unknown.
Try renaming the file with a known type.

Animations don't appear
When there is no Shockwave Flash plug-in available, the user will click on an animation but it won't appear. Instead of seeing the animation, you may see:
- The browser window will be blank.
- The browser window will be blank except for a small 'x' in the upper left corner.
- You will not be forwarded to the Macromedia web site for the plugin download.
If you do not have the Shockwave plugin you can download it by clicking on the icon on the left hand side of this page.

ASCII text-based reports lines wrap oddly
ASCII text-based performance measure graphics are UNIX formatted files. Some word wrapping problems may appear for Windows OS users, depending on the text viewer utilized. Windows users should view the files with WordPad.
|
ASCII text-based reports can't be saved from file menu
This is a problem in Internet Explorer v5.5. Copy and paste the text file contents (CTRL-C to copy and CTRL-V to paste in Windows).

UNIX
The animations use ShockwaveFlash player version 5. The plugins for this player have been downloaded from Shockwave player download, and installed under: /vol/unsupported/solaris/multimedia/flash_solaris.
Please follow these directions to enable Netscape v4.7 browser support for the ShockwaveFlash animations.
- Copy the flash files into your home Netscape plugins directory
>pwd
>~
>cp /vol/unsupported/solaris/multimedia/
flash_solaris/libplayerflash.so
~/.netscape/plugins
>cp /vol/unsupported/solaris/multimedia/
flash_solaris/ShockwavwFlash.class
~/.netscape/plugins
>ls -alps ~/.netscape/plugins/*lash*
>-rwxrwxrwx 1 mikew staff 1145171 Sep 24 15:03
libflashplayer.so
>-rwxrwxrwx 1 mikew staff 2363 Sep 24 15:03
ShockwaveFlash.class
- Edit the home directory .login file. The following lines add the plugin search path to the local environment.
>pwd
>~ >vi ./.login
# Sun Java Runtime Environment v1.3.1.01 and
ShockwaveFlash plugin
setenv NPX_PLUGIN_PATH ~/.netscape/plugins
setenv NPX_PLUGIN_PATH "${NPX_PLUGIN_PATH}:
/vol/unsupported/solaris/java/j2sdk1_3_1/
jre/plugin/sparc"
- Run the revised .login file and check the NPX_PLUGIN_PATH environment variable.
>pwd
>~
>source ./.login
>echo $NPX_PLUGIN_PATH
>~/.netscape/plugins:
/vol/unsupported/solaris/java/j2sdk1_3_1/
jre/plugin/sparc
- Shutdown and restart netscape TWICE.
